Phuket Sandbox : Latest Information on Thailand Travel Restrictions Relaxation for Foreigners

According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)  From July 1st, Phuket will open for tourists. This Phuket Sandbox Model is the first Thailand travel restriction relaxing policy for foreigners. Travelers don't need to do quarantine. However, all tourists must stay in Phuket for at least 14 days before they can move around freely all over Thailand. Source: TAT Newsroom

Here is updated information on Phuket travel restrictions and the requirements you need to know.

Notice: Please be informed that this initial policy can be updated or changed. 

Phuket Sandbox Model Conclusion

  • Applicable for travelers from countries with  "Low and Medium Risk" of Covid 19 Virus as announced by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH). The list will be available soon.
  • Covid 19 Vaccination Certificate is required and travelers have to receive the vaccine approved by MoPH or WHO at least 14 days before traveling (to Thailand) date.
    • Children of 6-18 years old traveling with a fully vaccinated guardian need to take a COVID-19 rapid test upon arrival at their own expense.
    • Children under 6 years old traveling with a fully vaccinated guardian do not need to take the COVID-19 rapid test.
  • All travelers are required to install the ThailandPlus alert application on their mobile phones.
  • All travelers are required to stay in accommodation with the Amazing Thailand Safety & Health Administration's SHA+ certificate in Phuket.
    • For travelers who want to visit Phuket only, no minimum stay is required.
    • For travelers who wish to travel to other destinations in Thailand, they must stay at least 14 nights before leaving Phuket.

What you Must Do to Comply with Phuket Sandbox Model

Before Arrival

  • A vaccine certificate to prove that you are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, at least 14 days before your traveling (to Thailand) date.
  • A Certificate of Entry (COE) issued by the Royal Thai Embassy or Consulate
  • A COVID-19 Health Insurance with minimum coverage of 100,000 USD
  • A confirmation of SHA+ Certificate accommodation booking
  • RT-PCR test before arrival and during your stay in Phuket

Arrival

  • Follow the COVID-19 screening procedure, including the RT-PCR test
  • Install the ThailandPlus alert application on your mobile phone
  • Go directly to your pre-booked SHA+ certificated accommodation to wait for the test results.
    • with negative COVID-19 test result, travelers can travel freely in Phuket

During 14 Days in Phuket

  • Get COVID-19 RT-PCR test as per the following requirements:
    • Taking the first test upon arrival and wait for the rest result at the accommodation
    • Travelers with the length of stay less than 7 days are required to take another test on Day 6 or 7, or as per the MoPH’s guidelines.
    • Travelers with the length of stays between 10-14 days are required to take the second test on Day 6 or 7 and the third test on Day 12 or 13, or as per the MoPH’s guidelines.
  • Make sure that you use services (tour companies, restaurants, etc.) from SHA+ Certified businesses.
  • The accommodation staff is required to report the name list and status of all foreign guests to the government on daily basis.

Traveling to Other Destinations

  • After 14 nights in Phuket, travelers can travel to other destinations in Thailand
  • Travelers must be able to present his/her vaccinate certification upon request
